Research Project
A study into the complexity of role of the Catholic Primary School
Principal as
a member of the Parish Community.
Rationale:
The Catholic Primary Principal operates within a unique context. Almost
all Catholic Primary schools are parish schools where the school is an
integral and significant element of the Parish community. Through this
relationship the Principal holds a key leadership role within the parish.
As such this role brings with it various levels of expectations from
the parish community.
The Project:
This Research Project aims to gather information from principals across
Australia regarding the "Parish community " dimension of
their role as a Catholic Primary School Principal. Experiences and common
practices vary across the nation and the process outlined below intends
to produce reports at the various levels of data collection. Diocesan,
State and National reports will be written using data collected from
principals. Such data will detail the experiences of Principals and contribute
to continuing development of a realistic view of a Principals role.
This final National Report, combined with other current research will
assist the National Catholic Education Commission, Diocesan Catholic
Education Offices, Council of Priests and Principal Associations to further
support this important role within the mission of the Church.
